Fourth Day of the Printing Future Days 2011

On the last day of the conference further contributions relating to topics of functional printing were presented within the sessions "Materials Deposition II-III”. The focus of this day was set on digital printing technologies. Ingo Reinhold (Xaar) concluded the scientific part of the conference with a presentation on piezo inkjet printheads.

Finally, the best presentations and the best poster of the Printing Future Days 2011 were awarded. The award for best poster, which was elected by all conference attendees was granted to Panida Lorwongtragool (Mahidol University Thailand, currently a guest PhD student at pmTUC) for her poster about inkjet printing of gas sensors based on carbon nanotubes and polymers.

Best Poster Award

[Dr. Mladen Lovrecek (iarigai), Prof. Herzau-Gerhardt (iarigai, HTWK Leipzig), Ingo Reinhold (Xaar), Panida Lorwongtragool (Mahidol University Thailand, PhD guest student at Chemnitz University of Technology) und Prof. Reinhard R. Baumann (Chemnitz University of Technology, Fraunhofer ENAS)]

JongSu Lee (Konkuk University) was awarded with the MicroFlex pize. This award is a new feature of the Printing Future Days 2011 dedicated to outstanding presentations in functional printing. The prize was awarded and sponsored by Tino Petsch (3D Micromac AG), Prof. Reinhard R. Baumann (Fraunhofer ENAS) und Terence O’Keeffe (Fujifilm Dimatix).

Third Day of the Printing Future Days 2011

The third day of the Printing Future Days 2011 was opened by Prof. Michael Reiche (HTWK Leipzig) chairing the session “Media II”. Within this session Dr. Andreas Paul (Océ, Canon group) introduced in his keynote the status of digital printing technologies for production printing and gave an insight into current technology developments of Océ.

The first session was followed by the session “Media Security“ which was chaired by Ass. Prof. Richard Adams (Ryerson University, Canada). Topics covered by this session were security printing and prepress.

In the afternoon Terrance O‘Keeffe (Fujifilm Dimatix) introduced current trends of inkjet printing technologies including interesting examples of applications. Later on during the lab-tour some of the introduced systems could be explored in the labs of Chemnitz University of Technology, 3D Micromac, Start-up Center and Fraunhofer ENAS.

The evening of the third day marked a highlight of the Printing Future Days 2011. All participants were invited to the conference dinner held at Fraunhofer ENAS.

This session was followed by a short presentation of all posters and the transition to functional printing. While the previous conference contributions covered conventional fields of print and media technology, the following presentations focus on properties beyond color such as printed layers with different functions. Prof. Lutz Engisch introduced this topic change with his presentation on printed electronics with focus on printing plate production.

The following poster session was accompanied by a presentation given by Mareike Gast (Industrial Design). She investigated application possibilities of printed electronics from a designers view.

In the course of the day, the session “Functional Devidces I-III“ followed which covered a wide range starting from carbon nano tubes, followed by printed solar cells to printed OLEDs and biosensors. The sessions were accompanied by keynotes given by Cathleen Thiele (IDTechEx) and by Andre Kreutzer (Printechnologics).

In the evening of the second conference day, all participants and guests of the Printing Future Days 2011 were invited to the “After Business Club“ which was a good opportunity to get to know each other.
